This year we welcomed our first child, Ronan into the world. Charlotte and I couldn’t be happier to be new parents and we love him to bits!

Well that wraps up another great year. We’re very pleased to be able to share some of our best wedding photos with you. We would love to hear your comments below. Please feel free to contact us if you’re looking for a Perth wedding photographer.

Our lives are busy. For many of us, there are few moments in a typical week where we stop, take a breath and soak in the moment… and be totally at peace.

The most satisfying part of being a photographer is enabling those moments to be savoured and enjoyed.

For regular readers of our blog you’ll be familiar with our Engagement Sessions. Over the past couple of months I’ve been enjoying referring to them as Connection Sessions instead. I feel it conveys what the time entails much better.

Jeff and Rachel are a two of a kind. Sweet, thoughtful, kind and always easy with a laugh. In planning their Connection Session we talked about their love of things whimsical, their love of good tea, their swing dancing and the Aussie bush.

Together we chose two locations meaningful to them – Kings Park to start out – with the rich aromas of gum leaves and the sound of leaves rustling…. and later on, King Street… But we’ll get to that 🙂

Jeff and Rachel spend much of their time reading together – whether it’s the fiction they’d prefer or long nights with their noses in heavy text books for uni. So while planning this wonderful picnic Rachel packed some vintage books for them to peruse.

As I always do, I invite the couple to experiment with their senses and see if they’re able to more fully be present in the current moment. The soft touch of the others hand, the beat their their heart. Simple acts like sharing a cup of tea each day are the little daily rituals that so many happily married old couples share, and I love that.

One of the most valuable things any couple can share is their laughter and joy… Something Rachel and Jeff have and abundance of. For this portion of the session we walked down to the Kings Park Botanical Gardens. It’s a really nice area for photography – with a diversity of plants and textures to use as backdrops.

Some of Rachel’s first memories as a young girl were of standing under a gum tree and loving the potent smell… So it was perfect that they were able to share some sweet moments under a ghost gum.

I love playing with scale in my photography and Kings Park offers some really cool opportunities for that…

After a wonderful time in Kings Park, Jeff & Rachel did a wardrobe change and we headed into their favourite part of town – King Street. As they wandered the streets they found some cool little locations…. Check out this cool little art gallery.

Don’t Jeff & Rachel look snazzy?? You really can’t beat King Street for the incredible architecture.

Rachel brought some balloons which made a really cool prop for some of the photos… Love the pop of colour.

Have you ever noticed that in movies they always wet the pavement? It’s one of those movie tricks that now that I’ve told you about, you’ll see it all the time. In these shots of them dancing below you can see how much dimensionality the reflections bring to the photos… Cool eh?

Jeff & Rachel popped into their favourite collectible book shop and enjoyed a few minutes chilling out together.

Before wrapping up their engagement shoot, they headed into their main hang out spot – King Street Cafe. The atmosphere is so European and the coffee is delicious 😉 I love seeing two people with so much love in their eyes. Don’t you love how they look at each other?

Thanks for an amazingly fun engagement session Rachel & Jeff!! I can’t wait for your wedding day!! It’s going to be AMAZING.

It’s such a pleasure to photograph gorgeous weddings. And the thing that makes weddings look great every time is a talented wedding planner. Just such a person is Cathrin D’Entremont, owner of CD Weddings – in my opinion, Perth’s best wedding coordination & design company. This past weekend Cathrin arranged a gorgeous little wedding in the main Rotunda at Kings Park – just steps from the War Memorial and with sweeping views of the Swan River. Below is a photo of the Rotunda almost ready for the first guest to arrive… and it couldn’t have been a nicer day.

From the ceremony I headed down to Matilda Bay Restaurant to photograph the reception set up Cathrin had designed. The bride had been specific – a minimalist approach with splashes of detail… And as always, Cathrin created a stunning space for guests to enjoy.

As you probably know, Matilda Bay Restaurant boasts some of the best River views in Perth, with boats gently rocking in the foreground and the Perth skyline reflected in the water, it’s hard to picture a more tranquil spot to celebrate the first meal as a married couple with friends and family.

Upon arriving, the light was streaming through the magnificent gum trees and birds were singing. The Matilda Bay staff were putting the finishing touches on the seating arrangements and straightening linens.

The room you see here is the Catalina Room, which can be used as an open air space (as seen below) or closed off of the weather cools down.

The floral arrangements below were created by Flower Talk. I love the way the tones perfectly match the terracotta tiles of the building and the soft mauves reflect the Swan River in the afternoon.

The gorgeous cake was designed by The Bent Spoon

The gorgeous white leather furniture, light boxes and cherry tree are all rented from Phenomenon.

As dusk settled in, the guests arrived to the ultimate reception location at the perfect time and started off a wonderful night of celebrating with a cocktail.

Thanks again to Cathrin & Rebecca for the opportunity to photograph this gorgeous Matilda Bay Restaurant wedding reception, setup by some of Perth’s best wedding suppliers.

When you decide to have your wedding reception at an amazing venue like Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park, you already know the meal and service will be second to none, so all you need to do next work choose a team of vendors who can bring a vision together for your wedding reception. It’s no wonder Kings Park Function Centre, by Fraser’s was awarded “Wedding Venue of the Year” at the 2010 WA Restaurant & Catering Industry Awards in June.

Recently I had the privilege of photographing the reception set up for a good friend of ours, international wedding planner Crystal Adair Benning, who like us lives an endless Summer, hopping back and forwards between Perth, Western Australia and Toronto, Canada. Crystal was working together with the talented Cathrin D’Entremont, wedding coordinator & designer of Cathrin D’Entremont Weddings on this wedding and I have to say, the girls rocked it!

Kings Park is well known for the world class view and for wedding photographers it’s an absolute dream to use as a photography location. With a location like Frasers you can either enjoy the view from your table or take a stroll as dusk approaches to soak in the incredible atmosphere as the top most leaves of the ghost gums catch the last remnants of golden sunlight.

As you can see, 3 chandeliers hung in the room and created an elegant focal point for the room, centered above the head table, where chairs were hired from Orielle. What a great touch.

The bride designed the head table layout and chose all the decor… cute eh?

The white tulips on the head table were done by Angel Flowers. Cute, elegant and understated.

Everywhere I looked in the room there were great little details, like this bottle of wine with a custom designed logo to match the menu.

The 10 tier wedding cake is one of the prettiest I’ve seen. It’s topped with a cute pair of crystal swans. It was designed by Devine Cakes – what a apt name!

Honestly, this has to be the best wedding cake ever! Just stunning.

Not a single detail was overlooked with this wedding… This wishing tree is so cute… and a great idea for a way to keep your friends and families thoughts.

The crème de la crème of the room may well have been the meticulously planned Candy buffet. The newlyweds own a lolly shop in Perth and thought it only appropriate to theme a table to their wedding! They used all white, creams and off white coloured lollies and a variety of jars to create this tempting table of tasty treats 🙂

Finally, here’s the list of suppliers who helped with creating such a stunning wedding reception.
