Frances & Jason are a fun loving, down to earth couple who are deeply in love. Tomorrow marks the day they will commit their lives to one another in front of their friends and family. Weddings are a wonderful thing.

In planning their pre-wedding photo shoot (or engagement shoot as I like to call them), we discussed finding a location where they’d feel the most comfortable and relaxed together and we chose the very beautiful Bells Rapids in the Swan Valley. When they tie the knot tomorrow they will do so only minutes from this location at the ever stunning Caversham House.

If you love watching slideshows, then check out their video right here… If you like soaking in each photo, then scroll on πŸ™‚

When it comes to choosing a great engagement photography location in Perth, you really can’t overlook the Swan Valley… absolutely stunning natural scenery and a relatively short drive from the city I love it every time.

I loved Frances’ idea of bringing brightly coloured balloons as a prop! Definitely made for some fun pictures.

I think the next two portraits tell you all you need to about their sense of humour!!!

Check out Frances’ engagement ring!!! Talk about timeless. So stunning. And what a gorgeous couple to match!

I absolutely adore these next two photos… What a beautiful tenderness they obviously share.

After a fun 20 minutes or so capturing all the shots above, they threw on some more comfy clothes and we headed off on the second half of their adventure.

While chatting about their engagement story Jason thought it’d be fun to reenact his proposal and as you can see, Frances’ response was as powerful as the first time around!

The light in the mid afternoon is just incredible this time of year… don’t you love the way the light pours through these she oaks?

I could sense just how close Jason & Frances were feeling at this time and invited them to close their eyes and imagine they were sitting in this same spot in 25 years and to imagine all the amazing experiences they would have shared – and how much their love will have grown. When they opened their eyes you can see that the love in their eyes tells that wonderful story.

Any fans of The Office out there? I am and with very little encouragement these guys loved the chance to plank a little! Haha.

The Bells Rapids bridge is such a stunning sight after the sun falls behind the hills… check out the incredible colours in this next pic.

After some more casual portraits we headed down to the river and Jason & Frances climbed into the lovely clear water together. With virtually no direction they made the most of this very romantic (and sexy) opportunity to express their love for one another. I particularly loved this set of photographs.

I’ll leave this post for now and look forward to sharing more photos soon. Dave.

Something I really love about my job as a wedding photographer is that I get the chance to meet new people almost every day. When couples book us to photograph their wedding day, we almost always do an engagement session too.

In chatting with Rebecca about her fiancΓ©, Angelo their wonderful daughter, Mia I found out they own an amazing orchard in the hills with apples, oranges, peaches, nectaries and many other fruits! So we decided it’d make the most sense to capture them in their wonderful surroundings for their family photos πŸ™‚

Below are some of the best photos from the session which I’ve very excited to share with you all.

Isn’t this next shot a cute one of the three of them?! What a sweet family photo.

Another cute set of photos… It started drizzling a bit in the second picture, which gives that lovely whitewashed tone.

Throughout the shoot Mia would run off and play with the ducks as mum and dad would get a little alone time. We had fun with some quirky and creative poses like these two below.

With a good amount of native Aussie bush on their property we headed up to the top of their property and continued their couples session. It was a wonderful day and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding day next Summer.

Hey all. It’s been a long time since my last blog post, so I’m very pleased to be sharing a gorgeous engagement shoot with you that we did on Sunday. During this engagement session I had the couple spend a little time connecting with one another over each of their 5 senses – Sight, Hearing, Taste, Smell and Touch.

They started off their session by listening to one of their favourite songs together (which you can hear by watching the video at the bottom of this post). Within seconds of them putting on the music it was completely obvious how much they love one another.

The photo shoot took place at the gorgeous Bells Rapids, about 45 minutes drive north of Perth. I think it’s an amazing spot to get away as a couple and enjoy some time surrounded by some of the most stunning landscape in the Perth region – I highly recommend you check it out sometime (Here’s Directions).

Next I had them focus on their sense of Touch. I asked each of them to close their eyes and allow the intense love they have for the other build inside of them as they thought of all the times they’ve felt the most connected to one another over the course of their relationship. Then I asked them to open their eyes and draw each other into an embrace that would convey the depth of their feelings about each other.

I’m sure you’ll agree that the hug above is one of the most beautiful images from the whole photo shoot.

Next we wandered over to a lovely open grassy area where I asked them to sit near one another and close their eyes, soaking in the aromas around them, then slowly move closer and start to smell one another… Sounds weird right? But check out the great laughter it caused!

The next photo is one of my favourites from the shoot. I love how much these guys are into each other. So cool!

After a break and change of wardrobe we kicked off the second half of the photo shoot with them throwing a picnic for themselves – wine, strawberries and lovely lindt chocolates made for a romantic time connecting over their taste buds.

Next we wandered down to the river and the couple decided they’d love to jump into the water together. It’s so nice seeing them really having a lot of fun.

Before I wrap up I wanted to share a wonderful review the couple posted on our google places page

This was the most amazing experience my partner and I have ever had! Dave made us feel so comfortable, it felt as if we had known him for years. Dave brought out the best in us and helped us reconnect on another level. After the shoot my partner and I just looked at each other and just went WOW, how awesome was that. It honestly felt euphoric and we were just on a natural high afer. We couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces on the way home. The next day I pin pointed why we were in this state of bliss. In the mix of planning a wedding, going to work and running through the daily grind, we all get caught up in ‘life’. That afternoon with Dave, he made us stop and reflect on how much we truly love each other… and reminded us why we were getting married in the first place. Thanks again Dave for this experience, absolutely love love love the photos and all your work! To those who are looking for a photographer, no need to look further Dave and Charlotte are it!

If you are a frequent reader of our blog you may be aware that we have been running a competition this month giving away 4 free portrait photo sessions. The first shoot to take place was Kailee & Liam’s Couple Shoot at AQWA at Hillarys Boat Harbour in Sorrento. Charlotte and I had an absolute ball doing this photo shoot for them… You see they have a similar situation to Charlotte and I… Like Charlotte, Kailee is of Canadian origin and Liam’s an Aussie like myself. In fact, it’s crazy what a small world it is…. Kailee’s sister is a talented photographer in Canada where we spend half our year!

We kicked of the shoot by heading over to AQWA, which is right across from our Perth studio. We made a bee-line for the jelly fish to create some really romantic backlit portraits of them against the jellies. Looks awesome eh!?

Next we all wandered downstairs to the tunnel that goes under the shark tank!! It’s a pretty amazing feeling to have sharks, sting rays and various other reef fish swimming within feet of you!

You can see how close the stingray is as it swam overhead! Amazing eh!?

Kailee and Liam aren’t engaged (yet!), but we’ve got our fingers crossed that when they decide to get married they’ll have us do their wedding photography! And hopefully at AQWA!!

What a damn sexy couple these guys make.

In the Danger Zone area of AQWA we got to see some incredibly colourful marine life… sea horses, angel fish, occies and lots more.

Notice the stormy conditions on the ocean in the photo above… This is one of the reasons we chose AQWA for the shoot… nothing better than avoiding the wind and rain!

The next photo has to be one of the best photos of the whole shoot… I love how the 3 sharks are all soaring above them. So cool.

Charlotte’s always coming up with really creative and interesting poses and photo ideas.. I love how ethereal and soft this photograph of their reflection in the tank turned out. Gorgeous.

After the photo shoot we headed back to our house as the beach shoot we had planned was rained out! You may remember the seriously intense storms that blew in about 10 days ago? Well this was that day!

Sitting on our couch they looked like models. The light was just perfect for creating some relaxed, natural light portraits.

I know I’ve said it before, but Liam & Kailee make a damn sexy couple right?!

Some of my favourite photos from the day are these next two… they just look so happy together!

Before wrapping up the shoot we stepped out onto our balcony and let the wind redo Kailee’s hair for her! I love gritty black and white portraits.

That’s it for now… Look forward to sharing some of the photos from the wedding we photographed this past weekend at Wise Winery in Dunsborough.

In planning Pat & Rebecca’s engagement photography we chatted about a venue that would allow them to unwind and feel most relaxed together… King Street in Perth turned out to be the perfect location. Before I kick off I want to fast forward and show you the best photo of the shoot… and it’s one of the last we took.. Check it out.

Rewinding to the start of the photo shoot, we began by wandering along King Street, passing some of Charlotte’s favourite shops… Tiffanys, Louis Vuitton & Gucci… So many amazing frontages and window displays.

I took these next engagement portraits standing in front of Gucci, using the lights from the window display… I love the contrast it creates in the colour of lighting.

Walking down the alleyway next to Zomp we arrived at the King Street Arts Centre where we created some really unique photos!! I was very impressed with Patrick’s willingness to try out a stop motion idea I had… the resulting series is really quite hilarious!

After a quiet beer together we headed down to the Sir James Mitchell Park on the South Perth Esplanade to finish up their engagement photo shoot with some really dramatic photos of the Perth skyline in the background.

Patrick & Rebecca are tying the knot this coming weekend in Dunsborough and having their reception at Wise Winery… Charlotte and I are making the most of it with a 4 day get away to unwind and get into the Margaret River vibe. I’m so looking forward to their wedding on Saturday! It’s going be be amazing. Will have photos to share with you all soon πŸ™‚
